Thomas L. Cox, D.D.S., M.S. obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in biology in 1983 from Central Wesleyan College and Clemson University. Dr. Cox graduated magna cum laude, was elected to Who's Who Among Colleges and Universities, and received the Board of Governor's Scholarship to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Dentistry. He received his Doctorate of Dental Surgery degree in 1987 and a Maternal Child Health Care grant to obtain specialty training in pediatrics at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. Dr. Cox also completed a postdoctoral master's degree in 1989 while conducting dental research at the Dows Institute of Research.
Dr. Cox's community awareness is evident in his talks to numerous groups. Included in the diverse topics about which Dr. Cox has spoken are: prenatal dental concerns, treatment of patients with developmental disabilities, fetal alcohol syndrome, behavioral management, and child abuse and neglect. He has served the Tidewater Dental Association as Chairman of Dental Health Month and has made several television apperances addressing prevention of dental disease. He holds membership in the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, American Dental Association, and American Society of Dental Anesthesiology.
